چکیده

The Authors have studied the biosynthesis of some furocoumarins contained in Ruta graveolens. Labeled 5,7and 7,8-dihydroxycoumarins have been administered to the herb, however practically no incorporation of radioactivity was observed in the isolated furocoumarins. Moreover, with the aim to study in a more detailed way the role of rutaretin and marmesin, trapping experiments have been performed administering to the herb labeled umbelliferone together with unlabeled rutaretin and marmesin respectively. A very effective incorporation was observed into marmesin, in lesser extent into rutaretin. In trapping experiments carried out using labeled rutaretin together with unlabeled marmesin and "vice versa", the results obtained clearly show that while marmesin was converted into rutaretin in a very effective way, rutaretin was transformed into marmesin only in a smaller extent. The Authors suggest the biogenetic origin of rutaretin and moreover formulate a new and more detailed aspect of the scheme for the biosynthetic pathway of furocoumarins in Ruta graveolens.

Studies on the Biosynthesis of Some Furocoumarins Present in Ruta graveolens

The biosynthesis of some furocoumarins present in Ruta graveolens has been studied administering labeled psoralen, xanthotoxin, rutaretin, marmesin and 7-hydroxycoumarin-derivatives. The results obtained indicate that the biosynthetic pathway involves not only psoralen, but also xanthotoxin and bergapten, by means of methoxylation or demethoxylation reactions. Moreover results achieved from adm...

Studies on the Biosynthesis of Psoralen and Bergapten in the Leaves of Ficus carica

With the aim of studying the biosynthesis of psoralen and bergapten, two furocoumarins present in the leaves of “Ficus carica” (Moraceae), the Authors, continuing preceding researchs on this topic, have fed the leaves with the following labelled precursors: 4/,5/-dihydropsoralen, 4',5'-dihydrobergapten, 7-hydroxycoumarin, 5,7-dihydroxycoumarin and 5-methoxy-7-hydroxycoumarin. The results obtain...

Furocoumarins from Heracleum rawianum in Iran

The species Heracleum rawianum belongs to Apiaceae, is one of the native species in Iran. The leaves and fruits of Heracleum rawianium are used traditionally in Iran as flavouring agent and spice for food. In the present work, the extraction of aerial parts of this plant with acetone by maceration is described. Our phytochemical analysis of the chloroform extract of the aerial parts of this pla...

Ascorbic acid induces furanocoumarin production in organ cultures of Glehnia littoralis.

Exogenously supplied ascorbic acid (AsA) strongly induced furanocoumarin production in leaf and root cultures of GLEHNIA LITTORALIS, but not in cell suspension cultures, after 24 h of treatment. The dose dependency showed that both organ tissues responded well to AsA supplied at concentrations of 10 - 40 mM. For induction of furanocoumarin production, roots required contact with AsA for at leas...

Photosensitized effects of furocoumarins: the possible role of singlet oxygen.

The capacity of various furocoumarins to generate singlet oxygen in aqueous solution has been determined. The antiproliferative and the skin-photosensitizing activities of the same furocoumarins did not show any correlation with the capacity to generate the singlet oxygen, while these photobiological properties could be correlated with the capacity of furocoumarins to induce photolesions to the...
